This is a 9-month, Tenure Track, Full Time, Permanent position at Honolulu Community College, within the Transportation & Trades (Tech I) unit. The position is funded by General funds and is expected to begin approximately Fall 2026, contingent on operational and program needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. The position may be changed from a 9-month to an 11-month appointment or vice versa as operational needs require. The core duty is to instruct students in welding, covering a range of courses including shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metallic and flux cored welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, plasma arc cutting, metallurgy and plastics, fabrication, and welding certification and inspection testing principles. The role involves working under the guidance of colleagues to understand student needs and learning outcomes, and performing related activities such as assisting in campus-related student activities, participating in faculty/administrative committees, community service, and in-service training. The instructor is expected to maintain an approved program of professional self-improvement, collect data, prepare reports, and adapt/revise course objectives. Instructional and non-instructional assignments are to be planned, organized, and carried out independently. A minimum of one office hour per week for each class taught is required. A commitment to community college principles and philosophy, including the "open door" concept, student success, and serving a diverse student and community population, is essential. The position requires availability for evening, weekend, and off-campus teaching assignments, which may include military bases requiring Department of Defense security clearance. Related duties as assigned are also part of the role.
