About The Position

Under the supervision of the Science and Mathematics Division Chair, this position involves teaching introductory psychology and human development courses, primarily survey of psychology, developmental psychology, and human development. The role may also include teaching courses that support vocational and allied health programs (such as Nursing and Early Childhood Education), transfer programs within the UH System, and courses addressing student and community needs. The instructor will be responsible for course assessments, implementing adjustments to improve student learning, revising or creating curricula and student learning outcomes, and preparing course syllabi. Collaboration with other faculty and staff, mentoring students, identifying and addressing learning needs (including those of underprepared students), and planning instructional assignments are key aspects of the role. The position requires developing and maintaining a personal professional development program and maintaining appropriate office hours. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, non-credit, Early College, and/or distance education classes, as well as operational or off-site instructional duties. Changes in teaching modality and approaches may be necessary to meet emerging needs. The instructor will also participate in various committees and partnership initiatives. A commitment to Kaua'i Community College's mission, principles, and philosophy is expected, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Human Development (Family Resources); OR
• Master's degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (Family Resources); OR
• Master's degree in Human Development; OR
• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Nursing or Public Health with 12 credits of advanced coursework in Human Development (life span)
• All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.

• Established record of effective teaching to college students through classroom and/or distance education modalities.
• Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs.
• Experience applying innovative teaching techniques in courses.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct active research through peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and/or other scholarly products in public health writing, public health pedagogy, and/or health equity.
• Familiarity with public health applied learning experiences.

Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of introductory psychology and human development courses.
• Perform regular course assessments and participate in ongoing discipline-, program-, and institutional-level assessment.
• Implement adjustments to course content and professional practice to improve student learning.
• Revise or create new curricula and student learning outcomes when necessary.
• Regularly prepare and revise course syllabi.
• Work collaboratively with other Kaua'i Community College faculty and staff.
• Serve as a faculty mentor to students.
• Identify students' learning needs, including needs of underprepared students, and implement effective teaching strategies.
• Independently and/or collaboratively plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
• Develop and maintain a personal professional development program.
• Maintain appropriate office hours for each course taught.
• Participate in discipline-, division-, campus-, and system-wide committees, as well as relevant partnership initiatives.
• Demonstrate commitment to Kaua'i Community College's mission, principles, and philosophy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
