About The Position

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses. The instructor will guide the class, maintain accurate student records, prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour, and foster a safe and orderly learning environment. Responsibilities include grading student work, counseling students on their progress, developing classroom materials, designing curriculum, maintaining office hours, staying current with teaching methods and technology, and using assessment techniques to improve learning. The role also involves serving on college or department committees, attending professional development, establishing course goals and objectives, and collaborating with other instructors to ensure course relevance. Participation in graduation exercises is also expected.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Automotive Systems Technology OR equivalent combination of education and work experience in Automotive Systems Technology
  • Four years experience in an automotive repair facility
  • Computer skills using basic functions of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outook

Nice To Haves

  • Five years relevant industry experience in an automotive repair facility
  • ASE Master Technician certified
  • Teaching experience with assessment of student learning objectives (SLOs) in an Automotive Technology program
  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) Certification(s) such as GM ASEP, Ford ASSET, Toyota T-TEN, Honda PACT OR must be willing to become certified as the job demands

Responsibilities

  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Maintains regular office hours
  • Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
  • Serves on college or department committees as needed
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text and constructing a syllabus
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Participate in graduation exercises
