About The Position

This position serves as an Instructor Assistant in the Early Learning Center for the 2026-2027 School Year. The role involves supporting the ELC instructor in implementing daily activities, managing the classroom environment, and ensuring the well-being and development of young learners. The assistant will also communicate with parents and colleagues, maintain confidentiality, and participate in staff development. Applications are being accepted to form a pool of candidates for available positions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Proof of high school graduate/GED equivalent required
  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language
  • Ability to meet/maintain all eligibility requirements required by Texas Health and Human Services to be employed in a child care operation, including maintaining required first aid and CPR certification

Nice To Haves

  • Some college hours preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience in a state regulated childcare setting preferred
  • Knowledge of Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of daily activity plans and center events, including assisting the ELC instructor in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the instructor, including working with individual learners or small groups.
  • Support a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of young learners.
  • Utilize age-appropriate strategies to manage the behavior of young learners in accordance with district and department policies and guidelines, as well as the Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Assist children with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Actively supervise children in all programming areas and take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in creating a classroom environment that is warm and welcoming for children and parents.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom including supporting the cleanliness of the center and sanitizing center supplies.

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, children, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork as assigned by the ELC Instructor and ELC Director.
  • Provide quality customer service to all children, parents, colleagues and visitors.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children and peers; support the mission and vision of the department and center.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills and meet the yearly training requirements as outlined in the Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers.
  • Comply with state, district, and department regulations and policies, pertaining to the role of an ELC employee.
  • Attend and participate in staff and department meetings, as required.
  • Assist in directing the work of substitutes, if assigned.
  • Perform any and all other duties deemed necessary by the ELC Director, the Assistant Director of Community Programs, or the Director of Community Programs.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
