About The Position

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Dentistry (SOD) has an excellent opportunity for an IT Instructional Technology Specialist. The IT Instructional Technology Specialist will perform a variety of tasks to promote and aid faculty and staff in the delivery of instruction by creating technical-based learning experiences. This position will facilitate technology-rich teaching and learning by providing technical support to the Department’s learning management system for in-person, online, and hybrid modules. This includes support for self-paced asynchronous modules, audio/video components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in field and/or related field, such as Graphic or Instructional Design.
  • Two (2) years of related experience which includes proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production or IT resources.
  • Knowledge of position requirements.
  • Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws.
  • Skill in the effective use of applicable technology/systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.

  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists faculty and students in the use of technology in learning applications and equipment using a wide variety of available technologies, such as Microsoft Office 365 and other PC presentation software, Blackboard Ultra enterprise learning software, Qwickly attendance tracking software, Mediasite lecture capture software and distance learning (DL) technologies such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom video conferencing software.
  • Provides daily support and advice to faculty, staff, and students in effectively using instructional technology applications and/or equipment.
  • Conducts formal presentations in the use of specific technology materials.
  • Monitors use and secures audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment as appropriate.
  • Assists with the department's or school's presence on the web in the design and integration of special learning features.
  • May collaborate on training plans and blended learning implementation strategies and in the design and customization of curriculum and provide consultation on course media use.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
