About The Position

The Instructional System Designer shall provide educational and instructional design expertise in support of the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Academic Development Branch (EDED). The position supports the design, development, validation, evaluation, and sustainment of in-resident and online USAFSAM courses, multimedia products, graphics/media projects, and other training products as directed. The role collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Curriculum Development Managers, Course Directors, Project/Production Managers, and production team members to ensure instructional products are educationally sound, technically accurate, and aligned with applicable instructional systems design principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Educational Design, or a related discipline OR Minimum five (5) years of applied experience in Instructional Systems Design techniques. and related discipline.
  • Experience in at least two of the following four areas: Learning theory/psychology of learning/educational psychology, Instructional design practices, Educational assessment, Instructional product creation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of instructional systems design principles, including ADDIE, course analysis, design strategy, development, implementation, validation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology, instructional design practices, educational assessment, and instructional product creation.
  • Ability to develop or support the development of instructional materials, learner objectives, training strategies, assessments, written and performance tests, survey instruments, and training validation tools.
  • Ability to use current educational technologies and development approaches, which may include Adobe Captivate, SCORM packaging and delivery, gaming, 3D modeling, virtual reality, and simulation-related tools.
  • Ability to review, edit, and format written curriculum and instructional materials for grammar, spelling, syntax, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze student feedback, end-of-course evaluations, field surveys, and other courseware effectiveness data and provide clear written recommendations.
  • Ability to organize work, maintain files and records, manage competing project requirements, and work independently with limited day-to-day direction.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with SMEs, Course Directors, Curriculum Development Managers, Branch Chiefs, Technical Advisors, customers, production teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to critically think, solve problems, and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Ability to protect confidential, proprietary, sensitive, and operationally sensitive information in accordance with applicable company, contract, Air Force, Department of Defense, and OPSEC requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide educational expertise in the creation of multimedia, graphics, media, online/e-learning, and related training products in collaboration with SMEs, Project/Production Managers, Course Directors, Curriculum Development Managers, and production team members.
  • Apply all components of the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) Instructional System Design model when supporting courseware, curriculum, and training product development.
  • Recommend instructional platforms, instructional media, development tools, and delivery methods to satisfy training requirements for assigned programs, classes, or projects.
  • Add, manage, and test online courseware.
  • Compile comprehensive reports on data gathered.
  • Provide recommendations for training improvements.
  • Create training plans and provide or guide validation activities to ensure courses meet objectives and required proficiency levels before or after implementation.
  • Design training materials, including effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts, video scripts, storyboards, and associated instructional content.
  • Receive and clarify customer project requests, coordinate scope meetings, determine appropriate products, and storyboard projects.
  • Schedule content reviews and obtain required approvals for final course delivery.
  • Provide consultation and validation of educational content and delivery throughout USAFSAM multimedia development to help ensure final products are educationally sound.
  • Analyze student feedback from end-of-course evaluations and field surveys to assess the effectiveness of technical inserts and courseware.
  • Prepare written recommendations to the EDED Branch Chief, applicable USAFSAM Branch Chief, and/or customer for improving courseware using instructional systems design principles.
  • Correct grammar, spelling, syntax, formatting, and related administrative elements to accurately prepare, review, edit, maintain, and update written curriculum, files, and records.
  • Support educationally related activities as required, including office continuity design, online/e-learning support, and USAFSAM-specific curriculum guidance creation.
  • Use government-provided software tools as required and as directed by the Technical Advisor.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, training sessions, and other activities as requested or directed by the Course Director or Technical Advisor.
  • Assist with duties specified in the performance work statement and complete additional specific tasks identified by the Technical Advisor.
  • Prepare required status inputs and support reporting on project status, schedule, costs, deliverables, risks, and any issues or concerns affecting performance.
