About The Position

This is the entry-level position within the Instructional Support Assistant series. Incumbents assist certified teachers with classroom activities. Duties may include preparing materials, setting up and monitoring student activities, moving and shelving books, stocking and cleaning rooms, and copying materials. The role also involves acting as a student help aide in moving students and assisting with personal hygiene activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Title Schools: 60 hours of secondary education or successful completion of the Paraprofessional test.
  • Special Needs: Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
  • Knowledge of basic first aid.
  • Knowledge of child care principles.
  • Knowledge of basic English language and grammar.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical skills.
  • Skill in monitoring and assisting children with activities.
  • Skill in using office equipment.
  • Skill in dealing patiently with children.
  • Skill in maintaining order, discipline, and interest of children.
  • Skill in performing routine mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in providing customer service.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teacher by helping with classroom instruction and working with children during instructional activities.
  • Monitors children’s behavior inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Assists with clean-up and other related tasks following daily activities.
  • Prepares classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and preparing homework folders.
  • Attends a variety of meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Creates bulletin boards, maintains materials and supplies, contacts parents and makes copies.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
