About The Position

Under the supervision of a certificated teacher, the Instructional Assistant assists in the instructional program by performing a variety of tasks, including assisting students with learning activities, monitoring student progress, and performing clerical duties. The Instructional Assistant works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce and supplement the learning of the regular teacher. This position requires the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents, and to maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of two years of college (48 semester hours) or an Associate's degree, OR a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) may be preferred for some positions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with learning activities, including reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Monitors student progress and provides feedback to the teacher.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as grading papers, preparing materials, and maintaining records.
  • Works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce and supplement the learning of the regular teacher.
  • Assists with classroom management and supervision of students.
  • Provides support to students with special needs, as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintains a positive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Communicates with parents regarding student progress, as needed.
  • Participates in staff development and training activities.
