About The Position

The Department of Computer Science at CSUF invites applications for its Instructional Student Assistant - ILA Pool. Lab Assistants tend lab sections for CPSC 120/121L, circulate and help students with their work and provide academic support under faculty supervision. Lab Assistants are not involved in the creation or grading of assignments. APPLICANTS MUST BE RECOMMENDED BY AN INSTRUCTOR IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR THE POSITON. APPLICANT MAY BE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ON VERY SHORT NOTICE

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in the Computer Science department
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students
  • Computer Science major; GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Completed CPSC 120, 121, and 131, or equivalents, with at least a "B"
  • Preferably has taken at least one of these courses at CSUF
  • Excellent ability to operate the operating systems, Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), command-line interfaces (CLIs), and other mandated software environments used in lower-division CPSC courses
  • Eligible to work in the United State and can provide eligibility documents

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing lab materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Support instructors during lab sessions as needed, including distributing materials or helping students with equipment
  • Clean and organize lab areas before and after sessions, ensuring safety protocols are followed
  • Set up, test, and maintain lab equipment; report any malfunctions or safety issues
  • Ensure student compliance with lab rules
