About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Federal Work Study Instructional Student Assistant (Apprentice) Pool for the 26-27 academic year. This is a pool from which the department will draw as needed to fill temporary positions. Appointments are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, and applicants may be offered employment on very short notice. The apprentice role is designed to be gradual, allowing the apprentice to assimilate into an active learning classroom setting at their own pace, working alongside a mentor faculty member. Apprentices are an integral part of the flipped classroom model, enabling instructors to provide one-on-one and differentiated instruction, even in large sections. Their active role allows them to seamlessly support struggling students.

Requirements

  • Must be a current CSUF undergraduate (third year) and/or graduate student.
  • Must be in Good Academic Standing.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Works well with others.
  • Must attend mandatory professional development workshops either before each semester or monthly.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Student receiving federal financial aid package or federal work study award are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an Apprentice in the subject areas of Mathematics.
  • Work side-by-side with a mentor faculty member in an active learning classroom setting.
  • Support instructors in providing one-on-one and differentiated instruction to students.
  • Provide additional support to struggling students within the flipped classroom model.
