About The Position

The Instructional Specialist will assist building administrators in the development, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and upgrade of instruction and curriculum for all educational programs at the school. This role involves providing professional development, supporting at-risk students, overseeing the school's testing program, and assisting with teacher training and curriculum support personnel. The specialist will also coordinate with district personnel, support best practices through observations and coaching, and participate in school improvement plans and district training.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Licensure valid for service as a supervisor/director in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • An understanding of performance standards and effective teaching practices which support the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and MCAS
  • Working knowledge of various local and state assessment instruments
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and ability to integrate technology into instruction

Responsibilities

  • Assist building administrators in the development, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and upgrade of instruction and curriculum for all educational programs at the school in accordance with the school/district’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide staff with professional development opportunities that help raise the level of instructional performance and student achievement.
  • Work with teaching staff to address the needs of at risk students and assist in the goal of all students meeting the state performance standards.
  • Oversee the school’s testing program to assure appropriate accountability and assist the school in the interpretation of test results.
  • Assist in supporting and training new teachers and in the recruitment and training of tutors, paraprofessionals and volunteers.
  • Assist classroom and school-based curriculum support personnel in organizing classrooms for effective learning.
  • Coordinate/collaborate with district curriculum support personnel and work cooperatively with teachers, school level personnel, and administrators toward attaining objectives of the school and district.
  • Support “best practice” in the classroom by conducting classroom observations, modeling, coaching and conferring with teachers about their instructional practice 40% or more of the time.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Participate in district training as required.
  • Perform other instructional/curriculum responsibilities or program requirements as assigned by the principal and the Office of Curriculum and Instruction including the Title I Office.
