About The Position

PASCO SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1 is seeking to fill up to two Instructional Paraeducator positions for the Extended Resource Room (ERR) at McClintock STEM Elementary for the 26/27 school year. These positions involve supporting instruction and behavior interventions, facilitating communication, ensuring student safety, and providing academic and functional instruction. The role requires assisting with classroom management, preparing materials, supervising students in various settings, and adhering to district safety policies. Additionally, the paraeducator will assist with student needs such as diapering and tube feeding, attend required training, and maintain student records. Translation services may be required. The position is for a 180-day calendar with specific daily hours: 6.75 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 5.50 hours on Wednesdays; and 4.00 hours on Early Release Days.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following: Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher; Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses; Passing score on the Educational Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) trained or willing to attend training.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction and behavior interventions using ABA techniques such as prompting, positive reinforcement, discrete trial training (DTT), and task analysis as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Facilitate expressive and receptive communication by modeling and encouraging student use of AAC devices, picture exchange systems, and other tools under teacher or therapist guidance.
  • Use proactive de-escalation strategies and follow the student’s behavior support plan and approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques to ensure safety and support student regulation.
  • Deliver individualized or small group academic and functional instruction, monitor student engagement, and reinforce positive behaviors as directed by the teacher or specialist team.
  • Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival and/or departure, cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
  • Must be willing to assist with needs related to working with special needs students such as diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, lifting, etc.
  • Attend and complete annual required training hours for paraeducator certification.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
  • Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians.
  • Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
  • Willingness to review materials provided by district personnel and/or willingness to attend college classes for the purpose of improving instructional skills.
