About The Position

Sharpe Elementary School is seeking a dependable, positive, and student-centered Instructional Monitor to support our 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) after-school program. The Instructional Monitor works directly with students during the after-school program, helping provide a safe, structured, engaging, and supportive environment. This position may assist students with homework and academic activities, supervise enrichment and recreation activities, help with snacks and transitions, and support the overall daily operation of the program. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, brings a positive attitude each afternoon, and understands that relationships, consistency, and high expectations all play an important role in helping students succeed. This is a great part-time opportunity for a college student, parent, retiree, or community member who wants to earn additional income while making a difference for students. The CLASS TITLE is INSTRUCTIONAL MONITOR I. The BASIC FUNCTION is to assist an on-site director, classroom teacher, or other responsible staff member in providing a safe and quality environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively engage with students throughout the after-school program.
  • Assist individual students and small groups with homework, reading, math, and other academic activities.
  • Support instructional and enrichment activities planned by teachers, program staff, community partners, or the 21st CCLC coordinator.
  • Lead or assist with recreational, enrichment, STEM, arts, games, and other student activities as assigned.
  • Help maintain a structured environment with clear expectations while building positive relationships with students.
  • Reinforce school expectations of being Ready, Responsible, and Respectful.
  • Encourage students to participate, persevere, make good choices, and take pride in their work.
  • Supervise students during snacks, transitions, recreation, dismissal, and other program activities.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior using positive, calm, and consistent strategies.
  • Assist with student attendance, materials, supplies, setup, cleanup, and other basic program needs.
  • Follow all school, district, 21st CCLC, safety, confidentiality, and student supervision procedures.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, safety, attendance, or academic needs to the program coordinator or appropriate school staff.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, instructional staff, the program coordinator, families, and community partners.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate interactions with students at all times.
  • Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
  • Monitor students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in large groups to ensure their safety; follow procedures to safeguard the health and safety of students.
  • Assist the on-site director, classroom teacher or other responsible staff members in planning various activities for the students.
  • Assist with organizing materials for conducting special training activities.
  • Promote positive parent and child interactions and activities.
  • Participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
