About The Position

At Inland Career Education Center (ICEC), Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs) provide crucial support to adult learners pursuing their GED, high school equivalency, English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and basic adult education goals. The ISA offers encouragement, facilitates skill practice, and provides academic support in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. This role is instrumental in helping students build confidence and progress towards college, careers, and personal advancement. This position will work off-campus at a designated location, with direction provided by a Federal Work Study campus collaborator.

Requirements

  • Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year.
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.
  • Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) per semester.
  • Must have a federal need of at least $2,000.
  • Submit all requested financial aid documentation from your To-Do-List by the due date.
  • Must have an official award notification from the Financial Aid Office.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or permanent resident.
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work.
  • Ability to follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Social Security Card.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Hires only individuals lawfully authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Completion of Sexual Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of assuming employment and on a two-year basis thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintain a 2.5 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor adult learners in GED/high school equivalency subjects.
  • Support ESL, citizenship, and basic adult education students.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group academic support under instructor guidance.
  • Help students stay engaged, practice skills, and work toward learning goals.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, follow program procedures, and complete required documentation.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce instruction or practice skills determined by the intervention team.
  • Adapt materials and activities to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Support students in using technology, manipulatives, and other educational tools.
  • Manage and supervise small groups and individual students while servicing them.
  • Work collaboratively with the intervention team for training, student progress monitoring, and lesson plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.
