The Physiology Department at Michigan State University is searching for an Instructional Equipment and Supplies Technologist I for the PSL 475L and PSL 311L Laboratory courses. These laboratories focus on integrative human physiology, using organ system preparation models and noninvasive physiological measurements such as cardiovascular, respiratory, and neuromuscular assessments, along with urine and blood analysis. In this role, the individual will provide logistical and technical support for the lab course instructors and will be responsible for setting up and dismantling stations for laboratory exercises; lab budgeting and regular inventory maintenance; washing dishes and organizing laboratory materials; preparing basic solutions and reagents; performing routine care, maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment; working with vendors for major repairs; assisting students and addressing technical issues during class sessions (data collection and analysis, troubleshooting experiments); supporting the preparation and updating of laboratory demonstrations and exercises; working with product sales representatives; maintaining laboratory safety standards and required records; training teaching assistants and student employees in laboratory procedures and proper equipment use; demonstrating laboratory techniques as needed; assisting with maintaining instructional computer hardware and software used in the laboratory; maintaining general laboratory organization; and performing routine office tasks related to laboratory operations. Other duties as assigned. Candidates with the following competencies are also strongly encouraged to apply: Knowledge of fundamental physiological principles and some scientific research experience. Effective communication skills, an ability to troubleshoot basic technical difficulties with computers, data acquisition devices, and other equipment A desire to engage students in an active learning environment and the ability to work with large numbers of students from diverse backgrounds. Attentiveness to detail, promptness, and an ability to work independently. Familiarity with LabChart, LT, Desire2Learn, Power Apps (inventory), Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PubMed, and SPSS. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. By the end of the probationary period, the individual is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all assigned duties and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The duties to be performed by this position require in-person presence in East Lansing, MI, and they are not compatible with remote work. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
