About The Position

The Instructional Designer serves as an integral member of the Ambulatory Access Operations Team and is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of instructional activities, curriculums and e-learnings that cater to the diverse and ongoing training needs of the NYU Faculty Group Practice (FGP) network. The instructional designer is a support to the entire operation, ensuring that the key concepts and training needs for the FGP business lines are addressed and incorporated into our training standards and operations. This individual will ensure alignment on key areas of opportunities and operational processes, collaborating with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and team members to craft engaging and effective learning solutions that empower our and staff with knowledge and expertise to deliver exceptional patient-centered care, drive quality outcomes, and excel in service excellence. The instructional designer will develop an appreciation for and understanding of our FGP operations, including our ambulatory practices, and our Patient Access Centers and Central Billing Office, ensuring all material developed will be meaningful and tailored to our business.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and/or Masters degree required with preferred coursework in instructional systems, instructional design, adult learning theory, training and development, or performance technology
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an instructional designer in a corporate learning and development environment
  • Must have experience building online and in-person courses for adult learners from the ground up
  • Proficient in using Microsoft and computer graphics programs
  • Proficient in authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, Captivate, etc.)
  • Up to date and practical knowledge of adult learning principles and ISD concepts, including ADDIE and rapid methodologies like SAM
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to coordinate and track simultaneous projects
  • Experience using instructional technology, including learning management systems, video conferencing software, collaborative social networking tools, presentation software, authoring tools, Web 2.0 tools, and video editing software
  • Proven ability to distill dense, complex information into compelling, practical, consumable, scalable learning solutions
  • Requires a high degree of intuition, flexibility and adaptability to adjust to changing client demands, organizational needs, and emerging opportunities
  • This position requires strength in project management skills and strong written and verbal communications
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse stakeholders of client and subject matter experts
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem solving skills
  • Applicants must be willing and able to travel as needed (estimated 30% travel) for learning program oversight
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the charge in designing and overseeing diverse instructional modalities, from interactive e-learning to engaging in-person and blended learning programs.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to enrich teaching and learning experiences using advanced technology and online environments.
  • Develop informative and meaningful content aligned with the FGP networks mission, vision, and business goals, ensuring our training remains fresh, dynamic, and impactful.
  • Use tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Studio, Captivate, Adobe Connect, and mobile learning content software to create immersive and interactive learning experiences.
  • Infuse expertise in adult learning principles to revitalize existing curriculum and courses, increasing their relevancy and impact to meet the evolving needs and priorities of FGP operations.
  • Develop detailed plans, storyboards, and project documentation to effectively communicate visionary designs.
  • Create prototypes and all necessary supporting tools and materials to elevate the learning experience (i.e., facilitator guides, participant workbooks, on-line job aids.)
  • Share insights on appropriate instructional strategies, aligning content types, learner attributes, delivery platforms, and business objectives to elevate the effectiveness of learning programs.
  • Partner with training and operation teams to ensure learning and curriculums adapt with the needs of new hires and current staff.
  • Apply sound learning science, adult learning principles, and standards to all learning programs.
  • Be a driving force for continuous improvement by adopting design models like ADDIE, SAM, and design thinking, while applying project management best practices to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Create and maintain standards for online course development and instructional design.
  • Ensure consistency of processes across projects.
  • Conducts ongoing meetings with key operational leads to assess learning technology needs and opportunities
  • Assist in the identification, collection, and sharing of best practices across the FGP
  • Assist in ongoing departmental operations, development, marketing and delivery of learning & knowledge exchange products.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental action plans, work processes and systems
