About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Instructional Designer to join the Division of Business Services - Office of Professional Development (DBS-OPD) team. This position is responsible for developing an agency-wide training curriculum for employees of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). The role involves designing, developing, implementing, revising, and evaluating courseware to meet industry standards, departmental requirements, and business objectives. This position collaborates with Division leadership on employee training and development, and coordinates computer-based training, outreach, and special events. The role also involves identifying training needs through assessments, surveys, and meetings, consulting with business analysts and policy staff, and interviewing subject matter experts. Additionally, the position assesses present and future needs to develop educational goals and objectives, initiates curriculum and instructor guides, and prepares audio-visual materials. This position may offer remote work within Arizona, depending on business needs and performance.

  • Planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating training; evaluating and improving training materials and courses
  • Maintaining large volumes of information about complex programs; problem analysis, research, and resolution
  • Oral and written communication; using computer applications, Microsoft Office, Gmail, and G Suite applications
  • Work independently; monitor and adjust work plans
  • Learn State and Federal guidelines, policies, procedures, and rules related to Division services
  • Become knowledgeable in mainframe case management and related performance measures
  • Interpret legal documents, specifically, court orders

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable subject area, such as Human Resources Development, Adult Education, Psychology, English, or similar field.
  • One years' experience training adult learners as a full time trainer responsible for instruction and group/team facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and revises courses for delivery in a variety of media to all DDD employees.
  • Uses instructional-systems design model to ensure effective training, and uses training technology to develop and deliver learning products.
  • Identifies training needs on an ongoing basis through needs assessments, surveys, and meetings with work groups, consulting with systems business analysts and policy staff.
  • Evaluates training to assess training impact.
  • Communicates evaluation data to stakeholders and modifies training based on evaluation data.
  • Researches Division policies and procedures, State and Federal guidelines, databases, legal requirements and services, and knowledge and skills levels needed for course development.
  • Researches and drafts training.
  • Assesses change for present and future needs to develop educational goals and objectives.
  • Initiates related curriculum, instructor guides, reports, and correspondence materials.
  • Prepares audio and visual materials, as needed, related to the assigned training area.
  • Participate in meetings, special projects and/or committees determined by the supervisor or DDD management.
  • Performs routine administrative tasks in support of own work.
  • Works with technical expert in assigned area of training and assists to ensure training goals are met.
  • Interviews subject matter experts on organizational requirements and performance measures.
