About The Position

General Assembly is seeking an Instructional Design Manager to oversee the facilitation of their learning products. This client-facing role can be fully remote and may involve up to 40% travel to international clients or other business locations. Reporting to the Director of Learning Design and Development, this position bridges learning design, product, client experience, and delivery. The core responsibility is to translate learning experiences into clear, consistent, and scalable facilitation practices. Key duties include defining facilitation methodology and standards, building facilitator enablement and certification systems, establishing quality and coaching frameworks, and ensuring facilitators and SMEs are well-prepared for delivery. The role also involves direct client partnership to understand delivery needs, support engagements, and represent the learning experience perspective in design and delivery discussions. This role addresses the challenge of connecting product development with scalable delivery by building systems that help facilitators understand instructional intent, adapt effectively, and maintain a consistent learner experience across various programs, clients, regions, and delivery methods. It is not primarily a curriculum development role and does not involve direct people management, focusing instead on facilitation excellence, product enablement, client experience, and delivery quality.

  • 3+ years of experience delivering live, interactive learning across virtual, hybrid, and in-person environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building facilitator onboarding, enablement, certification, or train-the-trainer programs.
  • Experience evaluating facilitation performance and driving improvement through structured observation, coaching, performance rubrics, and feedback loops.

  • Strong judgment in balancing instructional design integrity with the realities of adaptive live delivery.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across Learning Design, Product, Operations, and Delivery teams.
  • Ability to influence standards and drive adoption without direct people-management authority.
  • Proven agility operating in fast-paced environments where products, client needs, and delivery approaches evolve quickly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex instructional concepts into clear, practical guidance for facilitators and stakeholders.
  • Comfort working across virtual, hybrid, and in-person modalities and traveling internationally when required.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, with the ability to build credibility, understand client needs, and confidently represent learning design and facilitation recommendations.
