About The Position

The Instructional Coach at Old North Academy in Saint Louis, MO, is a full-time position responsible for coordinating the teacher mentoring program and related activities. This role involves providing teachers with information, techniques, and strategies to enhance their effectiveness with students. The coach will implement and maintain services within established guidelines, and provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to support teacher growth. The Instructional Coach is a key member of the school site's Leadership Team and reports to the Principal.

  • Skills: Applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; comparing results; conducting trainings; a wide range of listening and questioning skills.
  • Knowledge: Lesson planning; instructional materials; community resources; assessment instruments and techniques; methods of instruction and training; school safety and security practices.
  • Ability: Scheduling activities, meetings, and events; gathering, collating, and/or classifying data; using job-related equipment; working independently and with others; working with data using defined processes; operating equipment using standardized methods; working with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; working with data of varied types and/or purposes; utilizing a variety of job-related equipment; problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans; independent interpretation of guidelines; moderate problem solving with equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes program-related information, such as student improvement data and goal setting, to provide direction, support, and recommendations, ensuring outcomes meet network standards.
  • Assesses teachers' professional development needs through classroom observations and other methods to enhance instructional practices, foster professional growth, and improve student learning.
  • Assists teachers with resources, materials, tools, and information to support classroom instruction and planning.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches to foster trust and advance district initiatives.
  • Coaches teachers and intervention personnel, including modeling best practices, to improve performance and problem-solving techniques.
  • Collaborates with school leadership, instructional staff, and other coaches to solicit feedback, seek professional learning opportunities, and support mutual growth, aiming to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Conducts regular pedagogy meetings with instructional staff, utilizing Adult Learning Theory, to enhance instructional practices, foster professional growth, and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Coordinates local and state student assessments by organizing, distributing, and explaining the process to instructional staff to ensure compliance with network and state mandates.
  • Develops high-quality professional learning and coaching plans, setting goals with teachers based on data to improve their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel, such as cluster group teachers and instructional assistants, to ensure standards are met and performance is maximized.
  • Monitors students in various educational settings (classrooms, playground, field trips) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Organizes and delivers instructional materials and resources to teachers to enhance instructional practices and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to exchange information relevant to job functions.
  • Prepares written materials, including evaluations, anecdotal records, and schedules, to document teacher progress and meet requirements.
  • Provides individualized teacher support, such as observing and providing feedback, modeling instruction, and co-teaching, to enhance instructional practices, implement curriculum, and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse) to ensure student safety, maintain a positive learning environment, and comply with policies.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information or direction.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the school site.
