The Instructional Coach at West Middle School will partner with teachers to enhance instructional methods and strategies, ensuring student learning of district power standards and Oklahoma PASS Skills. This role requires becoming skillful in communication, relationship building, change management, and leadership. The coach will gain knowledge of Robert Marzano’s research on teaching and learning and Dr. Jim Knight’s Partnership Learning Instructional Coaching Process, staying current with research in student learning and instruction. The position involves encouraging teacher reflection, providing effective feedback, modeling lessons, observing teachers to suggest improvements in lesson design, and assisting teachers in developing research-based classroom management, content enhancement, lesson design, and formative assessment practices. The Instructional Coach will collaborate with site principals to understand the school’s vision for improvement, work with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to deliver the district’s educational program, attend required district meetings, provide resources for Professional Learning Communities, and assist in planning and implementing district instructional programs. They will also provide district and site training, attend relevant training sessions, and collaborate with site leadership teams to ensure teachers have the necessary skills and resources for best practices. Additionally, the coach will meet staff development requirements and assist in the selection and adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs. The role also includes performing other assigned tasks by the supervisor.
