About The Position

The Secondary Coach is a non-evaluative instructional leader who partners with teachers to improve student achievement in mathematics. The coach supports implementation of evidence-based practices aligned with the Standards for Mathematical Practice, MTSS, and district curriculum initiatives. Through job-embedded coaching, modeling, collaborative planning, data analysis, and professional learning, the coach strengthens Tier 1 instruction and intervention practices while building teacher capacity. The role also supports positive classroom culture and social-emotional learning to promote student engagement, self-regulation, and academic success.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Mathematics (EX) 6-12 certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in Secondary Mathematics
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Standards for Mathematical Practice
  • Strong understanding of Michigan's K–12 academic standards and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Experience using and analyzing mathematics assessment data, including universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals
  • Attend workshops/conferences to learn about innovative instructional strategies and curriculum initiatives
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records and submit required documentation in a timely manner
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and projects a positive public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups
  • Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers in order to successfully provide opportunities for professional growth.
  • Manage time and schedule flexibility in order to maximize teacher schedules and learning
  • Provide training in how to understand and use data and assessments to improve teaching and learning in relation to MTSS
  • Facilitate training to support the implementation of student intervention plans
  • Develop training and related ongoing teacher support to develop positive learning environments for students, for example, engagement strategies, including CHAMPS, Thinking Maps, Talk Moves, etc.
  • Provide professional development in the use of research-based instructional strategies, including modeling of lessons and co-teaching (where appropriate)
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers
  • Provide training on resources and materials that are in alignment with the District curriculum to address the needs of students with different learning styles
  • Provide training in how to integrate technology into curriculum and instruction
  • Lead professional development in order to improve teacher’s knowledge, district-wide, of effective research-based instructional strategies
