About The Position

The Instructional Associate, Discipline provides instructional and tutorial support to students in a designated STEM discipline through the MESA program at Foothill College. The position reports to the MESA director and is primarily on campus, with some flexibility to combine on-campus and remote work based on student needs. The MESA director matches the associate with students for one-on-one tutoring or small-group study and exam preparation. One-on-one tutoring generally takes two to three hours per week per student; group tutoring varies with student and program needs. The director sets tutoring assignments so the schedule does not exceed 10 hours per week. The schedule may vary from quarter to quarter, so flexibility is required. Study and discipline resources are provided, and the associate is encouraged to develop and bring additional resources. Under general supervision, the associate conducts tutoring sessions and workshops, supports student learning and skill development, assists with exams, maintains student records, and performs related administrative and office duties. The position works independently within established procedures and policies, exercising judgment and initiative. It does not supervise staff. This is a permanent classified hourly position at 25% FTE (10 hours per week), Academic Days Only plus summer. The starting wage is $34.35 per hour, with a full range of $34.35–$45.97 per hour. The anticipated start is as soon as possible after completion of the search process. The district does not have a remote-work policy and expects employees to be available to work in person and on site as required by their department, although this role may allow some remote work based on student needs.
