About The Position

The Instructional Assistant provides support in an educational setting, working with small groups of students on lesson assignments. This role involves maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, monitoring students during various activities, and assisting with clerical tasks. Building cooperative relationships with parents, students, and teachers is also a key aspect of the position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior experience in a school or treatment setting, working with students needing learning, social, emotional, or behavioral assistance.
• DOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance required.
• Proficient with standard software applications and the internet.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Reliability, dependability, and flexibility are crucial.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics, general purposes and goals of public education, and techniques used in motivating students.
• Pro-ACT, CPI intervention training, and/or CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Works with small groups of students in an instructional capacity such as assisting students (individually or in groups) with lesson assignments.
• Assists in maintaining an appropriate classroom environment in order to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
• Monitors individual students in the classroom, library, or during playground activities to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Monitors and assists students during various classroom activities (examples: art, literacy, fine motor skills, bathrooming).
• Assists with clerical duties such as record keeping, typing, duplicating, and using a variety of instructional media, office machines, and equipment.
• Establishes and maintains a cooperative relationship with parents, students, and teachers.
