About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed certificated employee, the Instructional Assistant provides instructional assistance to students in a Special Education Resource Room environment. This role supports students with disabilities in accessing the general curriculum and developing academic and life skills. The Instructional Assistant works with individual students or small groups, implements lesson plans, assists with classroom management, and helps maintain a positive learning environment. This position is for 9 months per year, working 5 hours per day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of two years of college (48 credit hours) or passing the Paraprofessional Assessment.
  • Experience working with students, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Understanding of basic child development and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, which may include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • Previous experience as an Instructional Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with students with specific disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders).
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) may be preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education procedures and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional assistance to students with disabilities in a Special Education Resource Room.
  • Support students in accessing the general curriculum and developing academic and life skills.
  • Work with individual students or small groups under the direction of a licensed certificated employee.
  • Implement lesson plans and instructional strategies.
  • Assist with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily living skills and personal care as needed.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the supervising certificated employee.
  • Assist with the preparation of instructional materials.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, other staff, and parents as directed.
