About The Position

To facilitate the educational process with students, parents, and staff by effectively providing instructional support services.

Requirements

  • Oregon Department of Education fingerprint clearance is required.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR-AED cards, bloodborne pathogens, and EpiPen training.
  • Genuine enjoyment of working with students in a school setting.
  • Outstanding communication skills—both oral and written—which are effective across a wide variety of audiences, including students, parents, and staff.
  • Respects workplace confidentiality and maintains professionalism.
  • Technical competencies, including general office machines, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and the like.
  • Either two years of full-time college coursework or the ability to pass a Paraeducator Assessment upon hire is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students in a school setting is preferred.
  • Special Needs assignments may include: assisting a student with toileting needs, some student lifting, and consulting with specialized support staff.
  • May accompany students and teachers on trips.

Responsibilities

  • Assists teachers in instructional activities that allow for differentiated learning opportunities.
  • Instructs students in small group and one-on-one settings and revises lesson plans or teaching strategies as necessary to achieve the learning objectives.
  • Monitors and documents individual and group student progress and reports this information to supervising teachers.
  • Performs clerical and other tasks to assist the teacher, including grading papers, data entry, preparing teaching materials, maintaining accurate records, and the like.
  • Helps students to develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Promotes the safety of students by helping them to develop self-confidence.
  • Utilizes and models school behavior management programs.
  • Assists in communications between students, teachers, and parents as requested by the supervising teacher.
  • Provides special support to students with disabilities, including organizational assistance, one-on-one supervision, and eating and movement as necessary.
  • Supervises students as part of hall, lunch, or recess duties or as otherwise requested.
  • Works cooperatively with students, parents, staff, and community members to project a positive, service-oriented demeanor.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in district-provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
  • May assist in paperwork preparation, proctoring, and coordination of OAKS, ACT, and SAT tests for SPED students.
  • May coordinate weekly feedback on SPED and 504 students to assist the Learning Specialist or Counselor with weekly email progress reports to parents.
  • Assist students in study skills to support work given in the classroom.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
