About The Position

The job of Special Programs Education Assistant is done for the purpose of assisting, tutoring, and training special education and other identified students in a classroom or similar learning situation. This role involves providing personal care assistance and performing classroom clerical tasks to support the instructional process. The position is contingent on passing a physical, operates 7 hours a day for a 187-day school year, and begins August 19, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Assists special education students and other identified students, under the general direction of the teacher, with activities such as reading, explaining words, arts and crafts, classroom activities, and individual assignments to enable participation in classroom activities.
  • Attends meetings as requested, including inservice training, workshops, and IEP meetings, to receive and convey information.
  • Confers with teachers (special education and/or mainstream) to assist in evaluating student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Instructs special education students and other identified students, one-on-one or in small groups, in areas like math, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, and verbal skills to help students progress on their IEP goals.
  • Maintains instructional materials and student files/records to ensure availability and provide reliable information.
  • Monitors students in various settings such as the library, field trips, classroom activities, lunchroom, and on the bus to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Performs record keeping and clerical functions, including correcting papers, recording grades, copying, creating displays, collecting papers, and distributing supplies, to support the teacher.
  • Records observations and incidents related to specific students to provide documentation and communicate information to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff, including administrators, psychologists, teachers, and counselors, to provide information, direction, and referrals.
  • Assists other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
