About The Position

York School District One is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Special Education to support students under the guidance of a certified teacher. This role involves assisting students with academic studies, daily living activities, and special healthcare needs. The assistant will also monitor students and provide clerical support to teachers. The position is for 182 days per year, with salary and work year to be established by the Board. This is a non-exempt FLSA status position.

Requirements

  • High school graduate minimum with a successful passing grade on the Para Pro exam or two-year degree, or 60 hours of college credit
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of computers
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., emergency procedures, staff meetings) to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
  • Confers with teachers and/or parents if requested to provide information related to the student’s progress as established in their individual educational program.
