The Special Circumstance Instructional Assistant (SCIA) provides support to students with special needs, assisting in their supervision and instruction within special or general education classrooms. This role involves implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior, communicating with school personnel, and supporting students with unique medical, physical, and/or adaptive needs. The position is itinerant, meaning the SCIA follows assigned students from grade to grade, program to program, and site to site within a designated end of the district. Assignments are managed by the SELPA Office, and if an assigned student leaves the district or no longer requires support, the SCIA will be assigned a new student from their designated area.
