About The Position

This position is for an Instructional Assistant - Reading (Reading Intervention) at Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementary. The role is a 10-month term of employment, classified as Non-Exempt, and falls under the AFSCME UA3 Grade 3-7 salary scale. The assistant will work in an instructional support role with middle school-aged children, preparing and providing reading interventions, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 48 college credits or passing scores for the ParaPro assessment required.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to work in an instructional support role with high school/ middle school aged children.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Excellent organizational and communications.
• Knowledge of developmental stages of children.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities as directed by the literacy teacher.
• Must be at least 18 years old and out of high school for at least 2 years to work in middle and high school.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with the Reading Resource Teacher for instructional planning and delivery.
• Prepares reading interventions and monitors/records progress of students.
• Provide interventions to individuals and/or small groups of students determined by the Reading Resource Teacher.
• Collaborates with classroom teacher and reading teacher to discuss progress of students.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
• Regular on-time attendance.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the principal.
• Required to provide substitute coverage as needed.
