About The Position

This is a 10-month, Non-Exempt position with a salary scale of UA3, Grade G03 – G07. The role involves assisting teachers in planning instructional activities, maintaining a safe and orderly environment, and working with individuals or small groups to provide instructional reinforcement. Regular on-time attendance is expected, and the employee may be required to provide substitute coverage as needed. The position is with Charles County Public Schools.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree, 48 college credits, or passing ParaProfessional scores, required.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to work in an instructional support role with high school/ middle school aged children.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Excellent organizational and communications.
• Knowledge of developmental stages of children.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities as directed by the literacy teacher.
• Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
• Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
• The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in planning instructional activities and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
• Works with individuals or small groups to provide instructional reinforcement after the literacy teacher delivers the instruction.
• Assists the teacher in making preparations for a lesson.
• Regular on-time attendance.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the principal.
• Required to provide substitute coverage as needed.
