About The Position

Work under general supervision to assist students and teachers in the use of computers and educational software in the campus computer lab. Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Some experience working with children
  • Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
  • Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate.
  • The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress.
  • The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
  • Predictable and regular attendance expected.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Make the teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Demonstrate respect and courtesy to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willingly.
  • Avoid speaking badly about the district and district personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
