About The Position

This position is for an Instructional Assistant in General Education, with a specific focus on instructing a Color Guard Class. The role requires adherence to federal legislation regarding paraprofessional qualifications and involves supporting the classroom teacher in various instructional and clerical duties. The assistant will work under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher and the building principal, nurturing positive relationships and demonstrating professionalism.

Requirements

  • An associate of arts degree
  • Two years of college (48 credit hours)
  • Pass the ParaPro exam (state assessment test for knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and math)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with student and other staff members.
  • Ability to proficiently aid teacher in the performance of clerical duties.
  • Ability to work well with staff and students in her/his charge.
  • Maintain effective communication with teacher.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Proficiently aid the teacher in performing clerical duties.
  • Work well with staff and students.
  • Prepare the classroom for school.
  • Prepare and distribute lesson materials.
  • Instruct students under teacher supervision.
  • Keep the classroom neat and orderly.
  • Arrange bulletin boards.
  • Supervise cafeteria, playground, etc., under teacher supervision.
  • Assist with all clerical duties, including student records and copying.
  • Prepare the classroom for the close of school.
  • Maintain effective communication with the teacher.
  • Work with groups of students inside and/or outside the classroom.
  • Assess abilities and assist with the collection of academic/behavioral data of students.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the building principal.
