About The Position

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Prevention and Intervention, this role provides a variety of complex applied behavioral and instructional support strategies and techniques. The Instructional Assistant assists and shares with instructional personnel strategies on reinforcing instruction, supports individual or small groups of students, collects and maintains data on student behavior, and performs a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for certificated instructional personnel. The position also involves attending and participating in student progress meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Three years' experience working with school-aged children in an educational or organized setting.
  • Proof of passage of the CBEST, or proof of an AA degree or higher from an accredited institution in the US or successful passage of the District’s Proficiency Test or meet cut scores for ACT/SAT (ACT 23 Math, 22 English; SAT-550 Math, 500 English).
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
  • Incumbents are required to participate in District professional development trainings and workshops in the area of Crisis Intervention Training and related behavior strategies and techniques during a probationary period.
  • Applicants are required to have passed their 6-month probationary period in their current position before being eligible to apply for a new position.
  • If using an AA degree or above, transcript or Diploma must be attached as a Certification.
  • If not currently an IA with IUSD, one of the following must be provided as a 'certification': Proof of passage of the CBEST, or proof of an AA degree or higher from an accredited institution in the US, or IUSD Proficiency Test with passing scores of 70% in all sections, or ACT Test Scores with at least 23 in Math and 22 in English, or SAT Test Scores with at least 550 Math, 500 English.

Nice To Haves

  • College level coursework in child development, special education, or psychology.
  • Experience working with students with behavioral/emotional needs.
