About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a talented and motivated Instructional Aide for its Pre-K and TK programs at the Mission Ed Center. This role involves assisting a teacher or administrator in the direct delivery of instruction within a classroom setting, with the primary goal of facilitating student learning through developmental and remedial methods in basic skill and content areas. The Instructional Aide will support certificated staff by implementing lesson plans, participating in parent conferences, proctoring examinations, maintaining records, operating instructional equipment, and performing other related duties. Some positions may require specific language skills (conversational and written) in a language other than English, along with the ability to translate materials. Additionally, some roles may require a certificate of clearance from the Department of Motor Vehicles for District insurability.

Requirements

  • An Associates Degree or higher or 48 college units and a high school diploma or passing of CBEST and a high school diploma and completion of six semester units of ECE.
  • Passing of a Spanish bilingual exam is required.

  • Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the employee in the pre-Kindergarten program that provides services to children who are at least 3 years and 9 months of age.
  • Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, employees perform duties, which include the implementation of curriculum designed for the pre-Kindergarten-age population of the class listed above, examples of which may include familiarity with teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing the following tasks: working with children, acting quickly and effectively in emergencies, working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of SFUSD, and developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning lessons and preparing instructional materials.
  • Supervises and/or tutors individuals or small groups of pupils in specific skill and/or content areas.
  • Conducts planned lessons with assigned groups in the classroom or other assigned educational location.
  • Assists in explaining subject matter to pupils.
  • Administers tests and examinations, and reviews, corrects and re-reviews assignments.
  • Maintains individual pupil profiles and/or portfolios.
  • Prepares, operates, and maintains instructional equipment and supplies such as audiovisual equipment, computers, laboratory equipment, and other teaching machines. May also procure and store such equipment.
  • Issues various supplies and equipment to pupils.
  • Maintains necessary records pertaining to instructional equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in maintaining classroom discipline to provide a positive learning environment.
  • Enforces classroom and school rules.
  • Assists in behavior management and discipline among pupils on field trips and at school site activities.
  • May assist other designated school staff in monitoring halls, locker areas, cafeteria, yard, auditorium, gymnasium, lavatories, and other areas of the site in accordance with program regulations.
  • Renders first aid in compliance with modern precautionary methods.
  • Reports disciplinary problems and injury incidents to the proper supervisor.
  • May assist the professional staff in publicizing educational development programs by issuing information, objectives, and functions of the program.
  • Supervises mealtime while eating with children.
  • Assists in preparation and distribution of snacks and meals.
  • Assists in supervision of lavatories.
  • Performs related duties as required.
