About The Position

Lakeland Community College's Institutional Research Data Analyst serves as the College’s primary quantitative data analyst and technical expert for institutional data, reporting, and survey administration. This position requires advanced analytical, data management, and business intelligence skills to support complex institutional reporting requirements and strategic decision-making. The analyst is responsible for extracting, integrating, analyzing, and interpreting large and complex datasets, and translating findings into actionable insights that inform institutional effectiveness and student success initiatives. This role combines a high level of technical expertise with a strong customer service orientation. The analyst collaborates with administrators, faculty, and staff to identify research needs, develop appropriate methodologies, and deliver accurate, timely, and relevant data products. The position requires the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, apply rigorous analytical methods, and communicate complex data in clear, accessible formats for a wide range of stakeholders. The Institutional Research Office is part of the Division of Enrollment Management and is led by the Chief Data Analytics Officer. The Institutional Research Data Analyst works under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Institutional Research, who provides direct oversight for institutional research activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, education, economics, statistics, or other quantitatively oriented discipline required.
  • Training in research/statistics; a minimum of two years’ experience in applied research, including advanced skills and experience with statistical software, Power BI, and Excel.
  • Must be able to extract, edit, compile, and evaluate data.
  • Knowledge of SQL is expected.
  • Ability to utilize survey software (Alchemer) to support the design, creation, implementation, and analysis of campus surveys.
  • Advanced experience working with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with the ability to work in Excel at an advanced level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in business intelligence and data visualization tools , preferably Power BI, including data modeling and dashboard development.
  • Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, concise reports and visualizations presented in a user-friendly, intuitive format.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at various stages of data fluency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to perform routine and detailed tasks accurately and efficiently; work independently; meet deadlines; and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.

  • Prior experience in an institutional research department or higher education environment, particularly within a community college setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical design, administration, and analysis of institutional surveys and external survey initiatives (e.g., College Board, Peterson's, CCSSE, Trellis, etc.), including instrument development, data validation, results interpretation.
  • Analyze, evaluate, logically interpret, and summarize a wide variety of institutional data to provide timely, relevant, and accurate information for key stakeholders.
  • Produce and submit required federal, state, and external reports (e.g., IPEDS, HEI, Gainful Employment, National Community College Benchmarking Project, Postsecondary Data Partnership, College Comeback, etc.), ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and data definitions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reporting solutions using business intelligent tools (Power BI) to extract, transform, and integrate data from multiple relational systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries (Oracle PL/SQL) to extract, transform, and integrate data from multiple relational systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver cyclical and ad hoc reports by translating stakeholder needs into technical specifications, queries, and data visualizations.
  • Respond to external requests for institutional data and provide data to external organizations; serve as the liaison between these organizations and the College for reporting and disseminating data.
  • Using internal and external sources, compile and analyze data to support program review, accreditation activities, student tracking studies, enrollment management, needs assessments, and other research projects.
  • Prepare and disseminate internal reports on a scheduled basis.
  • Coordinate internal enrollment reporting and develop dashboard solutions with Power BI to track KPIs for various audiences.
  • Prepare user-friendly data visualizations for use in presentations (PowerPoint), reports (MS Excel and Word) and interactive dashboards (Power BI); summarize data findings for use by decision-makers in written reports.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data sources, definitions, methods, and reporting processes to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Monitor and apply emerging trends, tools, and best practices in institutional research, data analytics, and higher education reporting.
  • Serve on internal and external committees and boards, as required.
  • Attend infrequent local, state, and regional meetings as requested.
  • Ensure strict adherence to data governance, privacy, and confidentiality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
