About The Position

Founded in 2012, the Western Landowners Alliance (WLA) advances policies and practices that sustain working lands, connected landscapes, and native species. We envision a future in which private and public lands in the West are resilient to stressors, healthy and biologically diverse, and provide for thriving rural communities. WLA provides a collective voice, a peer network, and a shared knowledge base for landowners striving to keep the land whole and healthy. This position is responsible for grant writing, prospecting, reporting, project management, and relationship management for institutional funders (foundations, government, and corporations). The Institutional Giving Manager collaborates with executive leadership, program, and development teams to drive strategy for institutional giving in support of the WLA’s highest priorities.

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required.
Minimum five years’ experience with grant writing and management, working with public and private institutional funders
Experience working for a government entity or nonprofit specializing in environmental conservation.
Proven record of renewing and expanding support from government and private funders, and knowledge of federal uniform guidance, especially as it relates to budgets and match tracking.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with CRM database required.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
Creative and positive approach to communication and problem solving
Strong technology literacy and adaptability, including the ability to learn and effectively use new software, digital tools, and collaborative platforms.

Responsibilities

Identify funding opportunities that align WLA’s priorities and proven program approaches with funder interests.
Use a sophisticated understanding of WLA strategies, programs, partnerships and funding needs to inform work.
Proactively manage proposals, report deadlines, and calendar of deliverables.
Develop and implement organizational grant strategy to address the areas of highest need within the organization, including future growth and expansion.
Manage funder relationships through regular meetings, correspondence, facilitation of site visits, and check-ins.
Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategy for institutional funders in collaboration with executive leadership, program, and development teams.
Write grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to foundations, corporations, and government funders with input from program teams.
Prepare donor profiles and funder briefing material for the development team, executive leadership team, program directors.
Gather input and required support materials from program staff and key stakeholders/partners.
Coordinate with program and finance staff to create grant project budgets.
Work with finance and program staff to develop implementation plans for successful spending and on-time execution of grant deliverables.
Serve as subject matter expert in support of program staff related to allowable uses of grant funds, budget revisions, match requirements, extension requests, program amendments, and contract compliance.
Document and maintain clear and timely records to summarize visits/conversations, capture donor profile data, track moves management using the development database, and send acknowledgement letters and thank-you notes.
Provide data and stories from grants for organizational communication efforts (e-newsletters, social media, annual reports, etc.).
