About The Position

The Installation Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This position does not have direct reports and performs work independently and in a team environment with direct supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of related HVAC-R installation experience required
  • Valid Class D drivers license and commercial insurability required
  • Excellent problem-solving, mechanical, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HVAC and/or refrigeration systems and equipment.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools.
  • Ability to use thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices.
  • Ability to run copper piping and PVC, 80% of which is overhead and above shoulder level.
  • Ability to read and interpret operation and repair manuals, schematics and mechanical blueprints.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/technical school training or apprenticeship preferred
  • EPA Universal Certification desired

Responsibilities

  • Installs HVAC units and/or refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Installs ductwork and thermostats to control HVAC systems.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots problems with existing HVAC and/or refrigeration units.
  • Installs replacement parts on existing HVAC and/or refrigeration units.
  • Maintains inventory of replacement parts and orders replacements.
  • Utilizes a computerized management system to accurately record work progress and history.
  • Provides department support through collecting payment for necessary customers prior to service being performed and directing payments to appropriate personnel in a timely manner for processing.
  • Sets and achieves individual goals and supports department goals by contributing to a team environment.
  • Safely operates and maintains a company vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, assertiveness, versatility, and follow-through in responding to customer needs.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, timeliness, accuracy, and projects a positive company image in all assigned duties.
  • Complies with all company and industry safety standards.
  • May perform routine maintenance on HVAC/refrigeration systems as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by authorized personnel.
