About The Position

Holman is seeking an Installation Mechanic Technician to join their upfitting division in Ft. Wayne, IN. This role involves assembling and building vehicles according to specifications, installing various systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, crane), and performing quality inspections. The technician will read and interpret technical documents, diagnose and troubleshoot issues, and ensure all work order requirements are met. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality and safety. Requirements

  • Knowledge of vehicle, engine, or equipment repair.
  • Intermediate electrical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Intermediate hydraulic troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform MIG welding in horizontal, downhill, and overhead positions.
  • Ability to safely operate cutting torches and plasma cutters.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Must be able to provide basic hand and power tools.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Welding Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with truck equipment installation, utility vehicles, vocational trucks, or crane systems.
  • Familiarity with electric-over-hydraulic and central hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using computer-based diagnostic software and equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Dependable work ethic and commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and build vehicles according to work instructions, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Install and connect mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and crane systems.
  • Install truck bodies, equipment, boxes, and specialty components.
  • Fill vehicle systems with required fluids and verify proper operation.
  • Perform functional testing of installed components and moving parts prior to final inspection.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, prints, and work orders.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic issues.
  • Perform MIG welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment installation as required.
  • Conduct quality inspections to identify leaks, defects, or installation concerns.
  • Verify completion of all work order requirements and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record equipment serial numbers and vehicle information.
  • Organize and install vehicle and equipment operation manuals.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, torches, plasma cutters, and lifting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all company safety policies.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and communicate process improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
