This role involves performing quantity and quality inspection or verification of ships, barges, and pipeline transfers of petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical products. The Inspector will also be responsible for measurements and calibration jobs in accordance with company standards, legal, and client requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or technical/vocational education.
  • Excellent interactive and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively present information and reply to questions from customers and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Analytical, mathematical, and technical skills.
  • Ability to assess problems involving variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to handle tasks in a stimulating work environment such as outdoor/field assignments, weather conditions, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules as needed to meet inspection operation commitments, including accepting job assignments at any time, 24/7, even on scheduled days off.
  • Ability to work effectively even under pressure while performing concurrent numerous inspection operation works.
  • Strategic, methodical, logical, and detail-oriented.
  • Has a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to coordinate and motivate.
  • Able to build confidence, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Acts quickly and decisively; able to make tough calls.
  • Proficient in MS Windows applications, with the ability to navigate Microsoft Word and Excel fluently.
  • Must be able to work in ports, terminals, and on-board marine vessels as needed.
  • Experience in field operations within the Oil, Gas, and Chemicals (OGC) or petroleum industry is highly desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of TIC or International Federation of Inspection Agencies (IFIA) certification is considered an advantage.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card potentially required for access.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual observation, volume and temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in lines, barge tanks, ship tanks, shore tanks, and other vessels.
  • Ensure that received orders and instructions are understood and documented.
  • Attend commodity material movements involving line and tank transfer or displacement, loading and unloading.
  • Attend intervention meetings and report to job site punctually.
  • Communicate and coordinate with terminal, transport, and company personnel, observing applicable operation and safety rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Behave ethically at all times and communicate any problems, discrepancies, or noteworthy incidents to the Operations Executive (OE) without delay.
  • Promptly and accurately calculate quantities, perform full reconciliation, and complete all required documents.
  • Sign field inspection reports based on inspection services carried out.
  • Label sample containers with full and correct identifying data.
  • Promptly and safely deliver samples to the laboratory or customer's facilities.
  • Prepare necessary forms, materials, equipment, and appropriate personal protective equipment before proceeding to the work site.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good operational condition, including calibration, verification, and cleanliness.
  • Perform routine equipment calibration, verification, and function checks, monitoring the availability of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain work areas, records, and equipment in a clean, organized, and functional condition.
  • Assist OE in ensuring customer complaints and audit findings are addressed with efficient service quality investigation.
  • Perform work assignments in any operation areas when needed to meet operation commitments.
  • Request cash advances/payment of inspection operation expenses subject to review and approval.
  • Ensure instructions from immediate supervisor are understood and documented for calibration and verification tasks.
  • Prepare necessary forms, materials, equipment, and other requirements for calibration and verification jobs.
  • Physically perform all calibration and measurement activities utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
  • Prepare reports and conduct re-checking of reports prior to submission for calibration and verification.
  • Sign field reports based on measurement services carried out for calibration and verification.
  • Work in collaboration with client and/or facility representatives to ensure compliance to agreed specifications.
  • Ensure equipment fitness and functionality when at custody.
  • Prepare and submit complete and accurate measurements and calibration reports.
  • Maintain regular communication with business line team members regarding job status and updates.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
  • Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.
  • Comply with the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies and supporting objectives.
  • Perform appropriately and immediately in emergency situations and assist other staff members.
  • Dispose or direct the disposal of waste generated in a safe manner and in compliance with regulations.
  • Report all incidents, including near misses and hazards, in accordance with SGS Incident Reporting and Management requirements.
  • Efficiently use all equipment, including safety equipment, and company-owned property.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy worksite according to the organization’s 5S program and guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of safety and health-related hazards and environmental aspects and propose action plans.
  • Actively participate in incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Fulfill the requirements needed in the success of the QHSEE Management System.
  • Recognize the potential consequences of not following established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
