About The Position

A Level II Inspector/Sr Field Technician will be knowledgeable in construction methods and workmanship that ensures that contractors build roadways, bridges, utilities, and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. They will be experienced in construction inspection and testing that includes roadway (earthwork, subgrade, base, concrete and asphalt pavement, drainage, lighting, guardrail and striping for rehabilitation/new) and/or bridge (drilled shafts, driven piles, reinforcing steel, structural concrete, and bridge decks) elements and transportation projects and have basic familiarity with materials, methods, and processes used in the construction of transportation projects. The Construction Inspector will receive supervision and support from one or more senior field personnel and will be required to perform supervision and if required to oversee Material testing activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-10 years' experience as a senior construction materials technician
  • Must have ACI, SB102, Level 1A or Level 1B Asphalt Certifications
  • Possess High School Diploma
  • Ability to lift concrete, soil, or asphalt samples as a routine part of the job
  • Ability to tolerate year-round outdoor work
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history background check
  • May require statewide travel with paid expenses
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug related traffic offenses

Nice To Haves

  • Any additional TxDot Certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Observes and inspects ongoing construction work
  • Reviews plans and specifications to ensure that work is in compliance with same
  • Reports work progress and discuss construction related problems with project manager as needed
  • Assisting with training for less experienced personnel as required
  • Prepare Daily Work Reports in Site Manager
  • Perform field and lab testing and/or inspections as assigned in a cheerful workmanlike manner
  • Provide support to the Project Manager and/or Laboratory Manager as needed
  • Maintain/Obtain Certifications as Required
  • Ability to perform quantity and engineering computations, to read and interpret plans and specifications, document deficiencies and deviations from plans and clearly communicate this information to supervisors as they arise
  • Documentation of work performed as appropriate on media and forms provided in a timely manner
  • Must be able to manage time and work independently
  • Able to work in various temperature and climate conditions
  • Always follow safety procedures and company policies
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
  • Keep truck maintained and clean at all times
  • You will assign Construction Materials Testing and / or Inspector Level II job based on the company requirements
