About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located within the Office of Inspector General, Bureau of State Investigations Internal Affairs (IAD), Region 4. The mission of the Office of the Inspector General at the Florida Department of Corrections is to protect and to promote public integrity and accountability within the Department through investigations, audits, and inspections. We aim to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct, ensuring that the Department operates efficiently and effectively while upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum qualifications and standards as set forth in section 943.13, Florida Statute and possess an active Florida Law Enforcement Officer, Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer Certificate from CJSTC.
  • Eight years full time Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer experience with four of the eight years conducting administrative investigations or internal affairs investigations within a criminal justice agency or conducting investigations within an Office of Inspector general.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university can substitute two of the four years of criminal investigative internal affairs or inspector general experience.
  • An associate degree from accredited college or university can substitute one of the four years of criminal investigative or internal affairs or inspector general experience.
  • Non-Sworn investigative experience within a State of Florida, Inspector General’s Office, can substitute on a year-for-year basis, for a maximum of two years of the required sworn experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years or more years of full time paid supervisory experience of Internal Affairs investigative experience within an Office of Inspector General or within a local, county, state office.
  • Four years fulltime experience in a State Correctional System.
  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all investigations carried out within the Region are initiated and managed consistent with a Strategy and Regional Strategy.
  • Ensures that investigative plans and strategies are complete and are being followed, and that changes are approved and monitored.
  • Ensures investigative resources are properly allocated and that investigations and/or special projects are progressing consistently with management expectations and resources allocated.
  • Ensures investigations are conducted pursuant to the Association of Inspectors General, Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General and pursuant to the authority prescribed in FSS 944.31, Inspector General; Inspectors; power and duties and FSS20.055, Agency Inspectors General.
