The Inspector specializing in Pump Stations is a critical role within our infrastructure team, bridging the gap between design intent and field execution. This position requires a technical background in fluid mechanics and hands-on experience in the construction and rehabilitation of water and wastewater systems. You will be responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of pumping station projects—from pre-construction to final close-out—ensuring that all work meets our high standards for quality, compliance, and engineering integrity.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience: 4–7 years of professional experience in the design or inspection of new construction/rehabilitation for sanitary sewer, stormwater, or water booster stations.
  • Technical Breadth: Proven experience managing at least two construction projects from initial pre-construction through final close-out.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Strong understanding of fluid mechanics principles as they relate to distribution systems and pumping stations.
  • Digital Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with the ArcGIS suite is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to contractors, municipal employees, and internal engineering teams.
  • Agility: Demonstrated ability to multi-task and pivot focus to address the most critical project issues as they arise.
  • Availability: Flexibility to accommodate site-specific project schedules, which may occasionally require work outside of standard business hours to meet construction milestones.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or NICET Level 3 certification is highly preferred.
  • Digital Proficiency: experience with the ArcGIS suite is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight: Manage and mentor 1-2 junior-level inspectors across concurrent pumping station projects, ensuring consistent field reporting and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Lead monthly progress meetings with contractors, design teams, owners, and regulatory agencies (such as NJDEP); prepare and distribute effective meeting minutes.
  • Field Engineering: Address and resolve ongoing construction issues; exercise professional judgment to recommend and implement field changes based on observed site conditions.
  • Compliance & Verification: Perform rigorous inspections to verify contractor compliance with project plans and technical specifications.
  • Financial Administration: Review and validate contractors' monthly payment applications for accuracy and progress alignment.
  • Project Close-out: Lead final documentation efforts, including the preparation of as-built drawings and the resolution of outstanding punch-list items.
