About The Position

This role is responsible for performing and verifying visual, dimensional, electrical, mechanical, environmental and chemical, inspection functions relating to source, first article, receiving, in process, final and test operations using company or customer supplied drawings, equipment and/or procedures. Reviews and approves inspection/test data. Able to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and procedures. Inspects (Incoming and/or in-process) are highly complex; closed tolerance aerospace precision machined components and/or assemblies visually and dimensionally for conformance to manufacturing drawings, quality control specifications and supplier/customer requirements. Other duties and/or responsibilities may be performed as part of cross-training or employee development plans. Responsible for review and acceptance of paperwork and documentation used in the acceptance of product. Responsible for producing necessary manual or computer-generated inspection reports to accept or reject products. Inspection involves using precision measurement equipment such as, but not limited to, calipers, micrometers, pin gages, thread plugs, thread ring gages, thread gages, surface plates, spring tester, optical comparator, surface plate, and CMM. Possesses in-depth understanding of geometrical tolerancing and dimensional measurements per ASME Y14.5. Possesses minimum of 3-5 years of experience in first article inspection of highly complex, close tolerance aerospace products. Performs inspection on surface plates using complex inspection layout equipment. Operates Coordinate Measuring Machines during the performance of inspections (or have a strong working knowledge of CMM capability). Witnesses and/or performs dimensional inspection on highly complex; closed tolerance machined components and tooling at suppliers (Source Inspection). Maintenance of inspection records in accordance with company procedures. Generate and assist in the corrective/preventive action process.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of one year of CMM experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in mechanical inspection of highly complex, close tolerance aerospace products.
  • Must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158.
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and procedures.
  • Possesses in-depth understanding of geometrical tolerancing and dimensional measurements per ASME Y14.5.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with nondestructive inspection and imaging techniques, such as CT scanning and X-ray/radiographic imaging.
  • Experience in hands on repair and maintenance skills.
  • Able to work in various settings, including plumbing, electrical and industrial building in a high precision manufacturing environment.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move and handle equipment.
  • Construction skills, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and welding.
  • Knowledge or experience inspecting various types of materials (e.g., aluminum, alloy, titanium, stainless steel, etc.).
  • Knowledge or experience inspecting aerospace products with coatings (e.g., anodizing, cadmium plating, chromium plating, nickel plating, zinc plating, passivation, etc.).
  • College or ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification a plus.
  • Experience working in FAA environment.
  • Basic knowledge of DFAR and Nadcap requirements.
