City of New York•New York, NY
•$94,050 - $176,472

About The Position

The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI), an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, seeks an experienced and strategic thinker to serve as Inspector General for the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS), an agency of approximately 14,000 employees with a $15 billion budget. The Inspector General leads investigations into suspected corruption, fraud, waste, and misconduct and oversees a multidisciplinary team of investigators, attorneys, auditors, and analysts. The role is a key leadership position within DOI, focused on integrity and accountability in one of the City’s largest and most essential service agencies. The Inspector General manages complex, high-impact criminal investigations in collaboration with state and federal prosecutors and other law enforcement partners, as well as non-criminal investigations that may result in employee discipline. The role evaluates whether investigative findings warrant policy or procedural reforms and oversees the development of proposed reforms and, when appropriate, public reports explaining their basis. The Inspector General leads, guides, and mentors a diverse team while promoting independence, objectivity, rigor, professionalism, creativity, and tenacity. The position requires exceptional judgment, a proven record of investigative leadership, and discretion and integrity in managing sensitive issues. If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation. For positions with a law enforcement or investigative function, consumer credit history will also be reviewed during the background investigation, as otherwise permitted by the NYC Administrative Code. Appointments are subject to Office of Management & Budget approval for budgeted headcount.
