About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) seeks a highly qualified Inpatient Psychiatrist to join our academic psychiatry faculty. This position involves comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and clinical leadership on an adult inpatient psychiatry service within a major teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical care for patients presenting with a broad spectrum of acute psychiatric disorders. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive diagnostic assessments, developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans, managing psychopharmacologic interventions, assessing safety and risk, coordinating discharge planning, and collaborating closely with patients, families, and interdisciplinary treatment teams. Additional responsibilities may include consultation with medical services and collaboration with community clinicians to ensure continuity of care across treatment settings. The Department of Psychiatry is a major teaching site for Harvard Medical School and the BIDMC Harvard Psychiatry Residency Training Program. Faculty members actively participate in the education and supervision of psychiatry residents, medical students, and other trainees through direct clinical teaching, case conferences, didactics and mentorship of scholarly activities. The position includes opportunities for faculty development, academic advancement, and participation in the educational and research missions of the department. A Harvard Medical School appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and academic accomplishments.

Requirements

  • MD from an accredited medical school
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts medical license
  • Substantial psychiatric knowledge base and excellent clinical abilities
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients with psychiatric illness in acute care settings
  • Strong psychopharmacology skills and knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric treatments
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to patient-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive psychiatric care
  • Interest in medical education and academic psychiatry
