About The Position

This is a part-time Youth Apprentice position in the Inpatient Pharmacy. The apprentice will work with leaders to meet program requirements and hours, with scheduling flexibility around their student schedule. The role involves learning and demonstrating competencies in medication dispensing, delivery, prescription processing, and compounding, while adhering to all applicable policies, procedures, and Youth Apprentice program requirements.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled as a Junior or a Senior in a program that awards a high school diploma or GED.
• Good mathematic skills.
• Attention to details.
• Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
• Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
• If working in WI: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, application must be submitted prior to start date.
• If working in IL: Registered as a Pharmacy Technician through Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, application must be submitted prior to start date with license obtained within 60 days of date of submission.
• If working in NC: applicant must submit a North Carolina Department of Labor Youth Employment Certificate and register as a Pharmacy Technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Learns and demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other teammates.
• Learns and demonstrates competency in dispensing and delivery of medications, including developing competence in the department’s use of information systems, technology, and automation.
• Learns and demonstrates competency in prescription processing, including obtaining required patient information, data entry, record keeping, insurance verification, and label generation.
• Follows applicable policies and procedures to be in compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
• Learns and participates in non-sterile and sterile compounding preparation in accordance with USP guidelines.
• Learns and demonstrates competency in department safety strategies.
• Follows all requirements of the Youth Apprentice program as imposed by the state in which teammate is working.
