Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee (Flexi)
About The Position
Sentara is hiring a Flexi Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. This is a part-time position with 8 hours per week, featuring a rotating shift schedule with 8-hour shifts between 6 am and 11 pm, and occasional overnight coverage. Weekend and holiday rotation is expected, and hours may vary to meet pharmacy staffing needs. The role involves performing care delivery and dispensing under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, filling and delivering medications, ensuring adequate supplies, triaging and escalating issues, using systems for patient information, and maintaining quality assurance according to departmental and legal requirements. Operation of pharmacy equipment is also a key responsibility.
Requirements
- Registered Pharmacy technician-in-training in the state of practice.
- Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program or Guild Program and certification as a technician-in-training within 30 days of hire is required
- Must register as a pharmacy technician-in-training in the state of practice
- High School Diploma or Equivalent

Responsibilities
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
- Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
