About The Position

This role involves supporting inpatient pharmacy operations, including medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, and training new personnel. The technician will also handle order requests, maintain records, and assist with various pharmacy duties that do not require pharmacist intervention. Key responsibilities include preparing medications for patient care units, ordering from suppliers, preparing parenteral products, and ensuring accurate inventory and documentation. The position also involves pre-packaging and labeling medications, answering phones, and providing excellent customer service. Additional duties include obtaining patient medication orders for reconciliation and preparing chemotherapy and dosage calculations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or equivalent certification.
  • One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years preferred experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • PTCB certification or equivalent certification as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes departmental order requests.
  • Prepares medications for distribution to the patient care units.
  • Distributes medications to the patient care units.
  • Orders medications from various suppliers.
  • Prepares parenteral products.
  • Maintains the medication inventory, place orders in stock, check expiration dates, process returns as needed.
  • Trains and orients new pharmacy support personnel.
  • Performs billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
  • Maintains appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
  • Pre-packaging and labeling of bulk medications to unit dosed containers/packaging.
  • Answers telephone directing phone calls appropriately and diverts all medication/clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the department.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.
  • Obtains patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR.
  • Prepares chemotherapy and dosage calculation checks.
