About The Position

This role involves assisting pharmacists in dispensing prescriptions, managing patient profiles, processing sales, and maintaining pharmacy inventory and front store operations. The position requires adherence to laws and regulations governing prescription dispensing, proficiency with the pharmacy computer system, and excellent customer service skills. There are two tracks for this position: State Licensed and Nationally Certified, with opportunities for advancement upon achieving national certification.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma/GED or higher.
  • Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Tech in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred, OR PTCB certification or equivalent certification as a Community Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system.
  • Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles.
  • Maintains POS product database.
  • Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system.
  • Generates, maintains and files all required reports.
  • Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies.
  • Processes both new and refill prescriptions.
  • Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.
  • Counts and labels products as assigned.
  • Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of practice.
  • Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner.
  • Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s).
  • Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment.
  • Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions.
  • Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies.
  • Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories.
  • Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor.
  • Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior.
  • Reports all questionable practices to management.
  • Stays current with Pharmacy trends.
  • Deliver medications to patients.
  • Receive and put away pharmacy deliveries.
  • Keep front of the store over the counter section neat and stocked.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms.
  • Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims.
  • Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns.
  • Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels.
  • Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns.
  • Follows-up on backorders.
  • Rotates and maintains stock.
  • Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures.
