Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution, screen phone calls, manage pharmacy procurement and inventory, and perform various documentation tasks. Responsibilities may include nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also supports quality improvement initiatives, may assist in training other technicians, and ensures adherence to organizational policies and legal standards. Additional duties include obtaining patient information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and potentially third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care knowledge and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle for medication delivery may also be required.
